DESCRIPCIÓN:
La principal iglesia del Coca es la Catedral Católica, encargada a la comunidad capuchina. Su construcción no es muy antigua; tiene aproximadamente 35 años, por tanto su arquitectura es contemporánea. La característica más significativa de la iglesia es la de ser una iglesia martirial por el hecho de que Mons. Alejandro Labaka y la Hermana Inés Arango, ambos capuchinos, murieron durante la labor de contactar a los indígenas Wuaorani Tagaeri, para poder alcanzar una salida a la crisis que se generó a partir de la llegada del petróleo a los territorios ocupados por este clan Huaorani. De esta manera, entre los objetos más valiosos de la iglesia se encuentran los objetos personales de la Hermana Inés. Éstos se guardan en la que fuera su habitación, tal y como ella la dejó antes de partir.
La patrona de la catedral es la virgen del Carmen. Su fiesta, con una duración de tres días, se realiza cada 16 de julio.
