DESCRIPCIÓN:
El río Napo es el principal cuerpo hídrico de la Amazonía ecuatoriana y uno de los más grandes del Ecuador, originándose en las estribaciones de la cordillera oriental de los Andes, constituyéndose en uno de los tributarios de importancia del Río Amazonas. Presenta la mayor diversidad de peces de agua dulce del país (más de 400 especies) y en su recorrido ha dado origen a varias lagunas e islas. Cos sus inundaciones permite el establecimiento de diferentes formas de vegetación con diversidad de fauna asociada. Sus aguas arrastran gran cantidad de sedimentos los cuales deposita en las terrazas aluviales, mejorando la fertilidad de los suelos. La calidad del recurso es afectada por la contaminación de aguas servidas y por derrames de petróleo. Su alto caudal permite la auto depuración a medida que se aleja de los centros de contaminación.
Navegación: Es la principal vía de comunicación hacia el interior de la amazonía en la provincia de Orellana, sirve de transporte de carga, víveres, producción agropecuaria. Pesca: Se considera como fuente de pesca y caza de peces, reptiles y mamíferos para las comunidades asentadas en sus riveras. Turismo: El Napo es considerado como el eje principal para la operación turística para el cantón y la amazonía ecuatoriana, ya que dispone de una gran variedad de atractivos turísticos naturales y culturales a lo largo de su cauce. Y es la puerta de entrada y salida a países vecinos como Perú y Brasil.
Napo river
The Napo river is the principal water body of the Ecuadorian Amazonian and one of the biggest of the Ecuador, originating in the spurs of the oriental mountain chain of the Andes, being constituted in one of the tributaries of importance of the Amazon. He presents the major diversity of fish of sweet water of the country (more than 400 species) and in his tour it has given origin to several lagoons and islands. It goes fishing: It are considered to be source of fishing and hunt for fish, reptiles and mammals for the communities seated in his border. Tourism: The Napo is considered to be the principal axis for the tourist operation for the canton and the amazon region, since he has a great variety of tourist natural and cultural atractions along his riverbed and it`s the door of entry and exit to neighboring countries as Perù and Brazil.
